Ceramic Tiles – Mould Making
Posted: April 26, 2015 Filed under: Final Year, Subject | Tags: art, casting, clay, paper, paper manipulation Leave a commentI started making my mould, it took a very long time to build up from underneath to make the paper strong enough to pour the plaster onto. Once the plaster had set, I had to remove the paper and clay an hour after the as the paper might cause the mould to shrink if it stays in too long. I then had to clean up the mould and then let it dry in the drying cupboard over the weekend.

I placed these on to shredded cardboard which I sprayed blue. I like the effect that it has given the work.
Medals Update and Samples
Posted: June 4, 2014 Filed under: Subject | Tags: art, artist, clay, faces, fractured, ideas, maker, medals, ordered, plaster, samples Leave a commentI have been working on my medal project for quite awhile I have done an extensive amount of research into Jekyll and Hyde looking at split personalities disorder, morality and duality. I have decided I want to make an ordered and disordered image.
Medal samples
Here are some of my samples for my traditional medals. I decided to do some samples using faces and one of which being fractured. I also thought about grouting it, and experimenting with the ordered and disordered image.

Posted: January 8, 2013 Filed under: Subject | Tags: candelabra, clay, funday, makers, mashup, slipcasting Leave a commentWe had a total Makers mash-up session which I had a lot of fun being involved in. I like actively creating something and working with others to create outcomes so this was as close to perfect project for me. We were asked to get into groups and grab different slip cast objects that we had recently all cast, and use these objects to create candelabra. We had a lot of fun experimenting where each of these objects could go. My group me, Carys and Sarah made these wonderful things.
This is our first candelabra we used a wellington boot, a dragon and a coke-cola bottle. we were really happy with the outcome and we even named her Nessa.
For this candelabra we had a selection of perfume bottles and my little genie lamps and a lock. we couldn’t quite workout what to do with these items at first as they were all very similar but in the end we used that to our advantage and came up with this bug like creature that we called flick
and just for fun with the objects we had left we made Pacula who became our little mascot.
( here he is glazed, hopefully a post to follow on glazing soon )
We then used a program to make our dragon breath fire. This was a fun maker day. I really hope we do lots more things like this.
My New Found Love for Clay
Posted: January 8, 2013 Filed under: Subject | Tags: clay, coiling, genielamp, littlepot, makers Leave a commentI began to work with clay, using hand building techniques. I’d never really used clay before so I was starting from scratch, we learnt a variety of different hand processes including slabbing, pinching and coiling. Coiling was my method of choice, when the task was given to make a clay replica of my chosen object. My object was this little brass genie lamp pot, well that’s what I’m calling it as I have no other name. I felt coiling would be the best process to make my pot. At first the clay frustrated me. It was tricky and due to the size of my object was very delicate to construct at first. However the more time I spent on my pot out of class time. I began to really enjoy working with clay, and it has now become one of my favorite materials to use, and I will defiantly be doing more work with clay in the near future. So watch this space.
