Tutorial with Ingrid

I had another tutorial with Ingrid where I showed her the patterns that I had been working on. We talked about the ones that worked best. We discussed talking to Steve about getting fabric prints done, and ask ow much the cost would be to get 2 meter lengths in both paper and fabric. Another thing we discussed was to use shellac on some of my paper pieces so tat in the days to follow I could work in the plaster room making a mould, to create a three dimensional tile. It was also suggested to make pieces for a salt and pepper set, And we discussed applications of my work, which is upholstery, for cushions, furniture, also lighting, lampshades. Also I should look into metal sheeting which i’m not sure about yet. This tutorial was very helpful and made me see the next few steps that I need to take.

This Year

This year I want to focus on the natural forms, shapes and colours found under the sea, in corals, plants  and animals. I have always been very interested in the sea and I feel by choosing a topic I am interested in, will make me more excited and focused on my work. I am really inspired by the sea and I want to experiment with various fabric techniques to develop a unique project. I would like to make mainly jewelry and other accessories. However I would like to leave it quite  open for now at this stage, but at the moment this is what I am drawn to.

I have always loved up cycling and I would like to bring it into my work, but not in such an obvious way, maybe just bringing it in on certain points or focusing more on using parts to add to something rather than turning an object into something new. I would also like to incorporate natural found objects into this project such as shells, wood etc, where appropriate.

I also want to try to draw more this year and be more experimental with these drawings as it is a definite weakness for me, which I am feeling more and more of a struggle. I am going to try to do quick sketches to get my ideas down and not worry about trying to get a ‘perfect’ drawing, as for me this is impossible for me to achieve, so I want to just draw and accept that for what it is.

I want to work with a strong theme this year because I work better with a strong theme and it will keep me focused. I also think going back to work with fabrics will make me be more excited and have a much better and more interesting span of ideas. And also adding materials such as metals and found objects will make it more enjoyable and interesting.
